In an unusual move, the New England Patriots have posted on their Web site a two-sentence statement saying that they are giving wide receiver Deion Branch permission to seek a trade and negotiate a contract with another team. The statement says that the permission is granted to Branch through Sept. 1. Branch, the Patriots' top wide receiver, is under contract but has been holding out for a richer deal. Deion should recognize that his success is the result of TEAM work, and if he goes elsewhere, I think he will find that he will not be nearly as productive. He should have taken the Pat's offer when he had the chance.

The Partiots have a system. The system helped Branch to three Super Bowl rings, just as he helped the Patriots win those Super Bowls. It appears that Branch is ready to cash out of the system, or break the system. Bottom line: Yeah, his contribution so far came at a bargain for the Pats, but I have yet to see an NFL player who underperformed offer to renegotiate his contract to a lower pay a year or more in advance of his contract's expiration. It has to cut both ways. Branch should have honored his final year in good faith, especially considering that for all the great plays he has made, he has also been off the field with injuries, meaning ALL things considered, he does not deserve elite pay. We have seen this with the Pats before, and it always ends up with the player leaving, making big money, and never being nearly as successful again. You wanna' bet Milloy wishes he had stayed? Or Ted washington? Even Ty Law?

The guy is a disloyal bum, not only to the Patriots, but to Tom Brady who made something out of this nothing. I believe he belongs in Dallas where he can round out the side-show as the third reciever. I was a big Branch fan, but sincerely hope they get rid of this little piece of crap once and for all as she is nothing but a distraction at this point, like the screwballs in Dallas where he belongs.
