The Patriots filled the practice squad spot left open by Billy Yates' elevation to the 53-man roster, signing undrafted rookie center Brian Barthelmes.
The 23-year old Bathelmes was signed by New England as an undrafted free agent last May; he was cut on August 29 after playing in the first three preseason games. He is 6-foot-6 and 300 pounds and played collegiately at Virginia, which is coached by former Bill Belichick assistant Al Groh.
The practice squad is now back to its limit of eight players.
