BY ART MARTONE The Patriots suffered the second-most lopsided defeat of the Bill Belichick Era Sunday afternoon, as they were stunned by the Miami Dolphins -- losers of 20 of their last 21 games -- by an astounding 38-13 score. The Patriot defense was shredded by the previously silent Miami offense, as the Dolphins -- led by Ronnie Brown's four touchdowns and one touchdown pass, and 141 all-purpose yards -- ran up 461 total net yards and put together scoring drives of 74, 79, 77, 79 and 85 yards. The 25-point loss, which snapped the Pats' NFL-record 21-game regular-season winning streak, was the Pats' second-biggest margin of defeat since Belichick became New England's coach in 2000. The only one bigger was the 31-0 loss at Buffalo in the opening game of the 2003 season. They'd also lost by 25 to the Lions, 34-9, in Detroit on Thanksgiving Day 2000. Much, much more to come during the course of the evening . . . |
