The Patriots players have returned to Gillette Stadium after a three-day weekend and are beginning preparations on their next opponent, the San Francisco 49ers.

Bill Belichick, who was at the stadium yesterday with his coaching staff as it began crafting the Pats' game plan based on the game tapes it had from the 49ers' first three games this season; he said some adjustments will be made on the tape of yesterday's game between San Francisco and New Orleans has been broken down.

Belichick said he did watch a bit of the game on television yesterday, and noted that it turned on just a couple of plays: the 49ers had two turnovers in the red zone, and Saints' quarterback Drew Brees made a couple of good throws.

In the locker room, there was an interesting sight: rookie linebacker Jerod Mayo was wearing a black cast on his left wrist. Obviously, it is unknown whether he will play with the cast and how severe the injury is.

Richard Seymour, who was on the set of CBS' pre-game show in New York City, didn't get much of a chance to be a fan, as he was traveling back home. Rodney Harrison watched a few games at the airport in Atlanta, as he was stuck there trying to get back to Massachusetts.

He caught the Redskins-Cowboys game and Falcons-Panthers, and commented that the Cowboys' loss is a reminder to New England not to get too caught up in its record and just continue to compete. Dallas was tabbed by many as a Super Bowl contender and dropped a divisional game at home, though there are still three-quarters of a season to go
