The NFL Network reported moments ago that Ty Law has agreed to a contract with the Jets and will play in Thursday night's game against the Patriots.

"This is going to be different playing Thursday night against the Patriots, matching up against my former team and the players I'm used to practicing against," Law told the network in what was a curious quote. For starters, he left the Pats after the 2004 season and has already played played against them twice, when was a member of the Jets in 2005. (Law played for Kansas City in 2006 and '07, but the Chiefs and Patriots didn't face each other in either of those seasons.) In addition, none of the wide receivers or quarterbacks he played with in New England from 1995-2004 are currently active with the team.

"I know they're going to throw at me, but I welcome the challenge - bring it. I got the tricks for you."

The NFL Network reported the Patriots remained in contract with Law up until Monday, and the Saints weighed in to see if they could lure Law to New Orleans. But Law opted Monday to play with New York, where his first game back with the Jets will be against the Patriots.

"I just feel better about this and the direction this team is going and how they welcomed me," said Law. "I wanted to be somewhere I wanted."

Law said he will also see action at safety, in addition to cornerback, with New York.

"The Jets are going to move me around, make me a corner-slash-safety, a corner hybrid," Law said. "A lot of guys move back inside and play. Eric (Mangini, the Jets head coach) will do some creative things with me . . . "
