Click the play button below to hear Shalise Manza Young's comments, recorded this morning. She gives general comments on New England's disappointing loss in Indianapolis, then talks about Bill Belichick's use of timeouts, the Patriots' decision not to throw more long passes against the Colts' patchwork secondary, and the crucial games coming up these next two weeks against Buffalo and the Jets. I asked Shalise if she was surprised the Patriots did not throw more aggressively downfield: "I was surprised to see that, especially when you had Keiwan Ratliff lined up opposite Randy Moss several times. Ratliff was just re-signed by the team on Thursday. He's been signed and cut by them two or three times, I think. But I also think that part of the game plan was clearly to play keep-away. If [the Patriots] had the ball, then it wasn't in Peyton Manning's hands, and as long as they were moving the ball effectively, then that worked for them. And that is one of the things that they did well: They were able to get yardage in small chunks, and just eat up clock [the Patriots had a near nine-minute time-of-possession advantage]. So it was a little bit surprising to see them not go downfield more, but I also think it was certainly part of the game plan to just hold onto the ball as long as possible." CommentsLeave a comment |

I can't help but think that if Brady were playing, Moss would have the best numbers in the NFL. I think to NOT use him was the worst mistake of the game. If Moss goes up for a pass he is almost sure to come down with the ball and yet he is under-utilized. As far as mistakes in the game, physical mistakes like dropping the ball I can handle, but mental errors have no place in the NFL. Cassel not using Moss, Belichick's screwing up twice and Hunter's penalty are totally unacceptable. That game should have been in the win column.
