Pats-Steelers in-game: Third-down woes for New England

FOXBORO -- The Patriots had problems on both sides of the ball on third down in the first half, failing to convert any of six third-down chances offensively, but allowing the Steelers to successfully pick up a first down on 4 of 8 third-down situations.

That enabled Pittsburgh to pile up a 17:11 to 12:49 advantage in time of possession.

And the trend continued in the third quarter. The Pats failed to convert a third-down opportunity on their first possession -- albeit a 3rd-and-13 -- and had to punt. The Steelers, conversely, converted two third-down chances in three attempts on their next drive as they drove into the New England red zone for the go-ahead field goal. They are currently 6-for-11 on third-down chances.
