Tony Dungy, the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts during many recent showdown games with the Patriots, will step down at a news conference this afternoon, according to Fox Sports' Jay Glazer, who is citing anonymous team sources. Glazer writes that Dungy will be replaced by assistant coach Jim Caldwell. Dungy led the Colts to the postseason in each of his seven seasons leading the team. He has a 92-33 regular-season record as Indianapolis' head coach, and he coached the team to a Super Bowl victory in the 2006 season. He has not generally had great success, however, in the postseason. When the Colts lost to the San Diego Chargers in the first round of this season's playoffs, it was the fourth time under Dungy that the team had gone one-and-done in the playoffs. Overall, Dungy's playoff record with the Colts is 7-6. |
