The state may issue special license plates to benefit the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation. The Rhode Island General Assembly's House Committee on Constituent Services will review a proposal that would authorize the special plates at a meeting on Tuesday.
The plates would be subject to a minimum prepaid order of 900 plates, and would cost $40 in addition to the standard vehicle registration fee. The $40 would be divided evenly between the state's general fund and the foundation, which supports charitable and philanthropic organizations throughout New England in the form of direct grants and in-kind donations of tickets and Patriots memorabilia used at charity fundraisers, and through player appearances at charity functions and educational programs.
The legislation was introduced Feb. 12 by Representatives Edwin Pacheco, John McCauley Jr., Laurence Ehrhardt, Anastasia Williams and Christopher Fierro.
