According to multiple media reports quoting anonymous sources, the Dallas Cowboys have decided to part ways with super-talented, high-maintenance wide receiver Terrell Owens. The Dallas Morning News reports that Owens was cut late last night, despite recent comments by owner Jerry Jones implying that Owens would return to the team next season.

Neither Owens nor his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, has had any reaction to the news so far. Owens, 35, had very good numbers last season (69 catches for 1,052 yards), but they were the lowest for him since 1999. Owens became embroiled late in the season in a controversy over the team's chemistry that dragged in quarterback Tony Romo, tight end Jason Witten and some other receivers. In the end, the Cowboys' promising season ended without a playoff berth, and Owens for the third time in his career is leaving a franchise under a cloud of negative publicity.
