South Florida Sun-Sentinel columnist David Hyde writes today that dancing defensive end Jason Taylor, long a Miami icon, has a "rather obvious, and enviable, landing spot in New England," despite the desire of some Dolphins fans to see Taylor wear aqua and orange once again.
The Washington Redskins this month released Taylor after one season when he declined to commit to the team's offseason workout plan.
Taylor will be 35 when the season starts, and Hyde writes that the Patriots "have a history of signing aging stars ( Rodney Harrison, Junior Seau, Fred Taylor ...). Patriots coach Bill Belichick openly respected Taylor in their Dolphins meetings, as did Brady, for the simple reason Taylor was one of the few opponents to treat the quarterback like a throw pillow."
Another reason Taylor might want to go to the Patriots, Hyde writes, is the chance to bolster his Hall of Fame credentials by making a championship run for the first time in his career. That was unlikely to happen in Washington, despite the Redskins' dumping of money into the lap of free agent Albert Haynesworth.
Taylor is 14th on the NFL's all-time sack list with 120.
