peppers0317.jpgChristopher Gasper of The Boston Globe, quoting a source close to defensive end Julius Peppers, reported this morning that the New England Patriots are among "a very short list" of teams that Peppers would agree to be traded to.

Peppers has previously indicated that he would prefer to leave Carolina to play in a 3-4 defensive system such as the one run by the Patriots. The Panthers have used the franchise-player tag on Peppers to prevent him from leaving as a free agent, and because of his high price tag ($16.68 million), The Globe reports that Peppers will have some leverage over where he ends up.

NFL.com's Vic Carucci reported yesterday that the Patriots and the Panthers were in discussion on a deal that would send Peppers to Foxboro in return for the second-round draft choice that the Patriots picked up in return for Matt Cassel and Mike Vrabel. The Panthers, however, have denied the report.
