Peppers has previously indicated that he would prefer to leave Carolina to play in a 3-4 defensive system such as the one run by the Patriots. The Panthers have used the franchise-player tag on Peppers to prevent him from leaving as a free agent, and because of his high price tag ($16.68 million), The Globe reports that Peppers will have some leverage over where he ends up. NFL.com's Vic Carucci reported yesterday that the Patriots and the Panthers were in discussion on a deal that would send Peppers to Foxboro in return for the second-round draft choice that the Patriots picked up in return for Matt Cassel and Mike Vrabel.
