SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Former Syracuse football coach Dick MacPherson is a Hall of Famer. MacPherson is a member of the 2009 class announced Thursday by the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame. He compiled a 111-73-5 record in coaching stints at Massachusetts and Syracuse. MacPherson led the Minutemen to four Yankee Conference titles in seven years before taking over at Syracuse in 1981. He earned national coach of the year honors in 1987 after leading the Orange to an 11-0-1 record and the fourth spot in the final Associated Press rankings. MacPherson also served a two-year stint as head coach of the New England Patriots in 1991-1992, compiling an 8-24 record. He was replaced the following season by Bill Parcells. MacPherson currently works as a color commentator for Syracuse football radio broadcasts. |
