When Ellis Hobbs was drafted by the New England Patriots in 2005 he was still a few credits short of a degree in art and design at Iowa State University. He promised his mother then that he would finish school. Hobbs kept his word, and was one of nearly 2,500 students who received diplomas this month in Ames, Iowa. "Getting a college education is very important because the NFL is not always promised," said Nettie Hobbs, his mother. "Having an education is something you can go forward with.''
