A 25-year-old interior designer who is now studying in Korea is suing Matt Light, claiming the Patriots' 6-4, 305-pound offensive tackle broke his nose during an altercation at a nightclub inside Connecticut's Mohegan Sun.
Light's attorney declined to comment on the lawsuit to the Boston Herald, but in court filings Light has denied the allegations. According to the Herald, he told investigators that "he may have pushed someone out of the way en route to help his wife," who'd motioned to him she was having a problem on the dance floor, but he denied fighting with anyone.
Jacob Herman II, who at the time of the incident was working as a VIP host in the Blue Room of Mohegan Sun's Ultra 88, says he tried to break up a fight involving Light when the big offensive lineman turned on him.
Surveillance footage of the incident showed two groups being separated, but police say it "does not show anyone being struck," according to the Herald. Nonetheless, Herman had a black-and-blue left eye and a cut on his nose when police arrived, although he declined medical treatment. His lawyer says he later underwent surgery to repair a severe deviated septum and depressed left nasal bone, according to the Herald.
The incident occurred on New Year's Eve 2007. A Mohegan Tribal Police report indicates that Matt Cassel, Wes Welker, Stephen Gostkowski and Dan Koppen were also on scene. Herman filed his complaint Nov. 13, 2008, with Mohegan Sun's Gaming Disputes Trial Court.
