harrison0708.jpgIn a wide-ranging interview with Nancy Gay of FanHouse.com, former Patriots safety turned NBC studio analyst Rodney Harrison says that he should be in the Hall of Fame, but predicted he would not get fair consideration from the Pro Football Hall of Fame selection committee five years from now:

"Probably not," Harrison said, "because just look how the NFL has looked at me all these years. Ignoring my stats and my impact as a player and a teammate. Focusing on the negative.

"Do I believe I'm a Hall of Fame player? Absolutely. Will I make it in there? That's up to you guys," Harrison told Gay, who is a member of the board of selectors for the Hall. "But I know that I did all I could do."

In the interview, Harrison continued to make provocative comments about the sport:

-He called the Pro Bowl is "an absolute joke," more a popularity contest than a true honor for achievement on the field.

-He predicted that his 2007 suspension for using HGH, which he says was to help him recover from injury, will probably be used to block his Hall of Fame candidacy. But he said he does not think that what he did qualified as cheating.

-He repeated past comments that the more than $200,000 fines he received from the NFL reflected a bias in the league against defense and physical play in general: "You've got [recently retired NFL director of football operations] Gene Washington, he [was] a wide receiver. Of course he didn't like me. Because if he had played against me, of course I would knock his freakin' head off, too. They didn't want me hitting Jerry Rice in the nose."

Summing up his career, he said:

"As I walk off that field, I have no regrets, because I respected my peers, I respected the game and I played the game the right way. It wasn't about the money, a big check, it wasn't about the big cars, the houses, none of that. It was about respecting what everyone laid out before us.

"If you look at the numbers, my numbers don't lie. My impact is there."

I agree 100% Rodney was my favorite Patriot of all time..The passion, consistency and the love for the game that he brought to EACH AND EVERY GAME HE PLAYED were AMAZING!!!! People call him dirty or cheap shot only because they were afraid of him!! He's the type of player everyone wants on their side and everyone hates to play against and personally I think that is the type of impression that every player should leave on the field....Hall of Fame or not he was one of the best playing that position and he will be missed. And Pro Bowl- I agree 100% more like a darn runway for modeling than a football game..Love ya Rodney GO PATS!!!!
