-This has not been the easiest of offseasons for the Denver Broncos, and the hometown fans are apparently feeling a little sore about all the drama. New quarterback Kyle Orton -- who replaced Jay Cutler after Cutler's much publicized feud with head coach Josh McDaniels led to his being shipped out of town in a trade -- was booed during an intersquad scrimmage at Invesco Field when he threw two interceptions to cornerback Andre' Goodman. To add insult to injury, Goodman returned the second pick for a long touchdown. The crowd also booed Orton for throwing a pass behind Chad Jackson, booed the punter Brett Kern for some poor kicks, and booed the field-goal kicker Matt Prater for missing consecutive 43-yard attempts.
-In better news for the Broncos, The Denver Post reported that the team was near a deal with first-round draft pick Knowshon Moreno, the 12th overall selection in the draft.
-The National Football Post reports that the Chiefs already have a deal in place with the third overall pick, defensive end Tyson Jackson.
-Wide receiver Michael Crabtree is prepared to skip the entire season and re-enter the NFL Draft in 2010, according to Crabtree's cousin and advisor, who spoke to ESPN.com. The cousin, David Wells, says the 49ers offer to Crabtree is "unacceptable." But Crabtree's agent says that the threat was not made on his behalf, and the 49ers declined to comment.
-Yahoo! Sports Dan Wetzel says the saga does not reflect well on Crabtree.
-The receiving-poor Atlanta Falcons added a pair of veterans yesterday in Robert Ferguson and Marty Booker. ProFootballTalk.com noted that Ferguson and Booker caught a combined 17 passes last season. Roddy White, who is holding out of Falcons camp, hauled in 88.
-Former Patriots cornerback Deltha O'Neal has found a home with the Houston Texans, who signed him along with free-agent running back Andre Hall while waiving rookie running back Jeremiah Johnson. O'Neal joins a secondary that is already down two men with Jacques Reeves injured and Dunta Robinson in a contract dispute.
-Rookie Mark Sanchez looked better than veteran Kellen Clemens in the Jets' green-white scrimmage, which might give Sanchez an edge in of the league's most-watched quarterback competition.
-The San Diego Chargers may be one of the best teams in the AFC heading into the season, but it hasn't helped them much at the ticket booth. The team says sales have been slow and there is a threat of a TV blackout for the two home exhibition games (no big loss there) as well as some regular-season games.
-With Marvin Harrison gone, Anthony Gonzalez is preparing to step in to the role of second receiver for the Colts, behind Reggie Wayne. While it may seem like a huge change for Peyton Manning's offensive attack, Gonzalez's numbers last season were almost identical to Harrison's.
-ESPN's Chris Mortensen writes that Chicago Bears players are raving about their new defensive coordinator: Rod Marinelli, who recently was the head coach of the division rival Lions.
-SI.com's Peter King is paying attention to the conflict between the NFL and the players union, and he is beginning to get worried about the 2011 season.
