Al Davis says Raiders nearly hired Belichick in 1999

At the news conference Saturday night after Richard Seymour decided to report to Oakland, Raiders president-for-life Al Davis mentioned that when he was looking for a coach in 1999, it came down to Jon Gruden or Bill Belichick.

Davis wanted Gruden, while team CEO Amy Trask favored Belichick.

Davis got his way, as he always does. And the rest is history.
