Greg Papa, the voice of the Oakland Raiders, is reporting that Oakland has sent Richard Seymour a "five-day letter," meaning that he has five days from receipt of the letter to report to the team or he will be placed on the reserve/left team list.
In an update posted about 90 minutes ago, Papa tells the CSNBayArea website that the Raiders' position is: they want the player.
If Seymour fails to report for his physical for the expiration of the five days, he could be placed on the reserve/left team list.
Papa said the Raiders' position, simply put is: they want the player.
Papa also said the Raiders have sent a letter to Seymour saying he had five days upon receipt to report to the Raiders and take a physical; if not he could be placed on the roster/suspended, which means he could not play this season and Oakland would retain his rights for 2010. Seymour would be playing for his 2009 salary, and therefore would not become a free agent until after the 2010 season.
According to Papa, it is unknown when the Raiders sent the letter.
So this story takes another strange turn; New England has washed its hands of the situation and even the league office refuses to comment. If what Seymour wants most is his freedom from the Raiders, it seems he has little choice but to report and possibly hope he can persuade the team not to franchise him next year so that he can become a free agent.
It is believed that the Seymours took their children out of their respective schools in Massachusetts on Wednesday, and wife Tanya and the three children were headed to the family's home in South Carolina.
