Late last night, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Richard Seymour is expected to report to his new team, the Oakland Raiders, as early as today, six days after he was traded to Oakland by the Patriots.
Schefter also said Seymour will play with Oakland on Monday night when the Raiders open their season against San Diego. The team has not given Seymour a new contract nor a promise not to franchise him next year, Schefter reported.
Seymour received a five-day letter from the Raiders on Thursday, and the possibility of being unable to play for any team this season may have spurred him to head out to California.
However...the Boston Globe is reporting that the NFL Players' Association on Friday filed a grievance on Seymour's behalf, claiming that Oakland was not within its rights to send the defensive lineman the five-day letter.
The grievance calls for an "expedited hearing" so it can be held before Tuesday, the deadline for Seymour to report to the Raiders. The NFLPA plans to argue that the five-day letter rules do no apply to a player traded from one team to another, the Globe reports.
