FOXBORO -- It's been a "long" first quarter for the Patriots, who already have recorded their longest run from scrimmage, longest reception, and longest punt return of the season.

Rookie Julian Edelman had a 35-punt return, running back Laurence Maroney -- taking over after Sammy Morris went down with a knee injury on the Pats' first possession -- scored on a 45-yard run, and Wes Welker picked up 48 yards after catching a Tom Brady pass, setting up a 33-yard field goal by Stephen Gostkowski that gave New England a 10-0 lead with 47 seconds left in the quarter.

Gostkowski had missed two in a row prior to that kick, a 39-yarder today and a 40-yarder at Denver last Sunday.
