FOXBORO -- The Patriots were good when they had to be and lucky when they needed to be on Sunday.
And, as a result, they knocked the Baltimore Ravens from the ranks of the unbeaten.
The Pats were good in the red zone -- finally -- as they cashed in with three touchdowns and two field goals in five trips. Their defense allowed only two TDs, and came up with a key fourth-down stop midway through the fourth quarter as they stopped a Baltimore drive at midfield.
And they got lucky when, with the Ravens driving toward the potential game-winning touchdown in the game's final seconds, Baltimore wide receiver Mark Clayton dropped a pass on fourth down that would have given his team a first down inside the Pats' 10-yard line with 30 seconds to play. The flub gave the Pats possession of the ball, and they ran out the clock and came away with a 27-21 victory.
New England is now 3-1 for the season. Baltimore drops to 3-1.
Much more to come during the course of the afternoon and evening . . .
