Vince Young a possibility against Patriots?

young_1013.jpgThe Tennessee Titans, limping along at an abysmal 0-5, are still committed to Kerry Collins at quarterback, but head coach Jeff Fisher is hearing more and more questions about when Vince Young might return to the first-string role he once held.

Fisher has acknowledged that, while he does not blame his team's struggles solely on Collins, there may be a point that a quarterback switch is made. Yesterday he was clearly fatigued with the questions, saying: "I didn't say I was going to [change]. I said there's a possibility, OK? I didn't say I was going to and I didn't say when I was going to. Kerry is our starter and Vince is our backup."

During Sunday night's 31-9 loss to the Colts, Young entered the game late, with the outcome long decided. In the last two weeks, Tennessee has fallen behind by big scores early on. If the team struggles again out of the chute on Sunday afternoon, and finds itself staring an 0-6 start in the face, using Young might be hard to resist. He may not have much of a track record as a passer, but he would certainly throw a very different look at the Patriots, and perhaps have a chance to shake things up with his athletic skills.

Collins, who provided stability to the Titans' offense the last two seasons, has become very mistake-prone this season. His seven interceptions are second only to Carolina's Jake Delhomme (who has eight), and equal Collins' interception total for all 16 games of the 2008 season. His 67.4 quarterback rating is near the bottom of the league -- among the other quarterbacks who have been the primary starters for their teams this season, he is ahead of only Matthew Stafford, Delhomme and JaMarcus Russell.
