Patriots coach Bill Belichick just finished his pre-practice interview with the media for the first day of training camp and opened up with a statement about how good it is to be back and how much the Patriots are looking forward to having a successful 2010 campaign.
Belichick said that Pro Bowl left guard Logan Mankins is not at Gillette Stadium because he is not under contract and only the players that are under contract will participate in practice today.
Mankins is not happy with his contract and wants a massive pay raise or wants to be traded.
Belichick said that Wes Welker is day-to-day and that he hopes to see him out at training camp soon, and that the reason why the team released linebacker Shawn Crable yesterday was because he did not pass his physical and they don't believe he is in shape enough to compete for a roster spot.
Belichick did add that if Crable was in better shape then he would be able to compete for a spot.
Belichick said that while the team's Organized Team Activities were mainly learning practices, training camp is where players will get to work on individual things and that this is where the intensity will heat up competing for a roster spot.
The first session of training camp will run from 9:30 to 11:15. We'll be back with more coverage of the morning practice early this afternoon.
