KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Charlie Weis had emergency gall bladder surgery Monday morning, more than 48 hours after being diagnosed with an infection, Weis' agent, Bob LaMonte, told The Kansas City Star.
LaMonte said that Weis, who has been with the Chiefs since January, began suffering Friday with an infected gall bladder but chose to delay surgery until after Sunday's home game against San Francisco, which Kansas City won, 31-10.
"He didn't bother to do anything other than live through 48 hours of pain," LaMonte said Monday evening. "He knew he was coaching on Sunday."
Weis admitted himself into a Kansas City-area hospital on Monday morning and is expected to be released Tuesday, LaMonte said, adding that Weis isn't expected to miss any games.
"He's a tough dude," LaMonte said.
Chiefs coach Todd Haley was asked about Weis' health problem Monday afternoon but wouldn't discuss the condition, other than to say that Weis wasn't suffering from a life-threatening issue.
