Bold words

Hey all --

I know this week is supposed to be all about the Pats and Jets, but Dan LeBatard of the Miami Herald had some pretty strong words for Nick Saban on his way out the door today.

LeBatard calls Saban, who left the Dolphins after just two seasons and a 15-17 record a "loser", "gasbag" and "weasel." Oh, and "quitter" and "liar."

Wednesday injury report

Looks like Eric Mangini learned well from the master... the Jets have 15 players on today's injury report.

Patriots

Out: S Rodney Harrison (knee)

Questionable: WR Bam Childress (ankle), RB Kevin Faulk (knee), CB/S Chad Scott (back), TE Benjamin Watson (knee), NT Vince Wilfork (ankle)

Probable: QB Tom Brady (right shoulder), CB Ellis Hobbs (wrist), DL Richard Seymour (elbow), LB Mike Vrabel (back)

**Vrabel is a new addition to the list, and must have gotten hurt in practice. He, as well as all of the players listed as out and questionable, missed at least a portion of practice.

Jets

Questionable: RB B.J. Askew (foot), RB Kevan Barlow (thigh), CB David Barrett (hip), WR Laveranues Coles (jaw), CB Andre Dyson (knee), RB James Hodgins (knee), C Nick Mangold (thigh), G Brandon Moore (ankle), S Kerry Rhodes (knee), DT Dewayne Robertson (knee)

Probable: LB Matt Chatham (personal), RB Cedric Houston (calf), QB Chad Pennington (calf), S Eric Smith (foot), DE Bryan Thomas (shoulder)

**All but Houston, Pennington, Smith and Thomas were reported to have missed a portion of practice.

Chatham's personal reason was a death in his family. His father-in-law, William Magel was recently killed in a railroad accident.

Hill signing official

Hey all --

The Pats have officially announced the signing of Quadtrine Hill, and in addition to the info we've already given you on him, the team tells us he was signed as an undrafted rookie by the Texans in May, and was cut six weeks later. He then spent three days in August with the Bears.

New face

Hey all --

The Patriots haven't made an official announcement yet, but there was a new player on the field during practice and in the locker room -- number 41, Quadtrine Hill. A former fullback/running back at Miami, Hill is listed at 6-foot-2, 228 pounds, and is the son of former NFL running back Eddie Hill.

The team does have one open spot on the practice squad; Hill was not drafted.

Practice peek

Just in from a chilly practice (held outside behind the stadium), and the only missing player was Rodney Harrison.

Print media were present for stretching and some early drills.

Harrison OUT & other morning issues

Hey all --

As this is our first post of 2007, we here at the PJPB would like to wish you a happy & healthy new year.

Anyway, Bill Belichick did say this morning that Rodney Harrison will not play Sunday against the Jets due to his right knee injury.

There was a massive media contingent here, about 70 to 75 reporters and camera people by our estimate, befitting both the teams playing -- New York being a huge media city -- and the sexiness of this matchup and the mentor vs. student angle.

Belichick complemented the Jets' staff, headed by Eric Mangini, for the job it has done with the team this season, noting that New York has won six of its last eight games and won all three of its AFC East road games.

When he was asked about his relationship with Mangini, Belichick said this game "isn't about relationships" and that he and Mangini aren't playing one another, their teams are.

This is the first time that the Patriots have played a team three times in one season under Belichick.
